Childhood Dog

Sunday, January 10, 2021

upon snow’s bellowing return / the hill outside my childhood home calls / I catch a glimpse / of days passed / earth’s covers / blinding / the sun in it’s amber glory / my feet settle / into old boots / peppermint soaks upon my tongue / I taste early mornings / snow delays crackle through the radio dial / and now / in front of me / paw prints left / by my childhood dog / I want to bury myself / in the nights when she found me / when midnight had lost interest / and I was left to off tune crickets / does my voice / meet her howls / someplace passed the horizon? / when the night train whistles / she returns home
